BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

7:00 p.m.

 

The meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 pm in the Sharon Town Hall with Chairman William A. Heitin, Selectman Walter “Joe” Roach, Selectman Richard A. Powell and Town Administrator Benjamin E. Puritz

 

The meeting was delayed until 7:48 p.m. in order to finish up the meeting of the Priorities Committee.

 

SOUTHEAST REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET REPORT

 

This item has been rescheduled for a future date.

 

JAMNESTY

 

Two High School students, members of the Amnesty International-Sharon High School, came before the Board of Selectmen to present their Jamnesty Proposal to be held May 1, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to be held at Lake Massapoag.   The event will emulate Sharon High School Homecoming, meaning there will be a number of booths run by different SHS clubs and local bands will be playing at the bandstand throughout the entire.  A portion of the proceeds will be going to the Red Cross for relief to Haiti.

 

VOTED: (Heitin/Roach) Voted unanimously to approve Jamnesty Event on May 1, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to be held at Lake Massapoag sponsored by the Sharon High School branch of Amnesty International.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

The Regular Session Minutes of March 16 and 23, 2010 and the Executive Session Minutes of March 16 and 23, 2010 were held until next scheduled meeting.

 

CONSIDER APPROVAL OF RELEASE OF EXECUTIVE SESSION MINUTES FROM JANUARY 1, 2009DECEMBER 31, 2009

 

VOTED: (Roach/Powell) Voted unanimously to approve the release of redacted Executive Session Minutes  from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009.

CONSIDER CONTRACT RECOMMENDATION FOR MASSAPOAG AVENUE WATER MAIN INSTALLATION

 

Per memorandum dated March 26, 2010 to Board of Selectmen from Eric R. Hooper, P.E., Superintendent of Public Works recommended that the contract for the Massapoag Avenue Water Main Installation be awarded to the low bidder Tom Gioioso Construction, Inc., Rockland, MA in the amount of $245,794.65 for installation 2,415 linear feet of water main under Massapoag Avenue from the Community Center entrance to Morse Street.  Bids were received from eighteen (18) contractors and were reviewed by Amory Engineers. 

 

VOTED:  (Roach/Powell) Voted unanimously to award the contract for the Massapoag Avenue Water Main Installation to the Tom Gioioso Construction, Inc., Rockland, MA in the amount of $245,794.65 for installation of 2,415 linear feet of water main under Massapoag Avenue from the Community Center entrance to Morse Street. 

 

BANNER REQUEST APPROVALS

 

VOTED: (Roach/Powell) Voted unanimously to approve the banner request from Paul R. Bergeron, Veteran Agent for Memorial Day to hang a banner from May 24-31, 2010 (1st position)

 

VOTED: (Roach/Powell) Voted unanimously to approve the banner request from Paul R. Bergeron, Veteran Agent for Flag Day to hang a banner from June 4-15, 2010 (1st position)

           

VOTED: (Roach/Powell) Voted unanimously to enter in executive session for the purpose of discussing collective bargaining, real property and pending litigation and at the end thereof to adjourn for the evening

 

The Board adjourned to Executive Session at 7:56 p.m.
